On July 5th, the Santa Clara City Council will consider placing a tax on the ballot in November 2022.
On June 30th, a staff memo will be released detailing the staff’s recommendations and/options for the tax increase. Edesa Bitbadal met with the Assistant City Manager Cynthia Bojorquez to discuss the parameters of the tax.
- Staff is examining:
- A head tax per of employee
- One bill
- No categories
- Progressive
- Sustainable
- Include a CPI
- A Cap that will be high
- EDD reports and self-reporting to capture the number of employees
- To begin on January 1, 2024
The Head Tax will capture $6-$9 million in funding to the City of Santa Clara’s general fund.
