On July 5th, the Santa Clara City Council will consider placing a tax on the ballot in November 2022.
On June 30th, a staff memo will be released detailing the staff’s recommendations and/options for the tax increase.  Edesa Bitbadal met with the Assistant City Manager Cynthia Bojorquez to discuss the parameters of the tax.

  • Staff is examining:
    • A head tax per of employee
    • One bill
    • No categories
    • Progressive
    • Sustainable
    • Include a CPI
    • A Cap that will be high
    • EDD reports and self-reporting to capture the number of employees
    • To begin on January 1, 2024

    The Head Tax will capture $6-$9 million in funding to the City of Santa Clara’s general fund.
