The California State Assembly is set to vote this week on AB 380 (Gonzalez, D-Los Angeles), which would impose commercial rent control and eviction bans during declared emergencies.
This bill presents a major threat to the commercial real estate industry, as it would undermine private business-to-business contracts, prevent eviction even for nonpayment for the duration of a declared emergency, and create massive uncertainty.
