Meet our Speakers 

Nick Lazzarini, Executive Director – Cushman & Wakefield
Nick Lazzarini is an Executive Director at the Santana Row office of Cushman & Wakefield in San Jose. He is a Silicon Valley native specializing in working with users and owners of office and R&D product. This balanced approach allows Nick to be a market leader and expert in his field of practice. Assignments range from campus and full building projects to the initial office for growing companies which can be on- or off-market transactions. The end goal is to allow clients to make the most informed decision possible and maximize return on their real estate investment, whether leased, owned or sold.

Joe Long, Managing Director – JLL
Joe Long is a Managing Director in JLL’s Silicon Valley office specializing in tenant representation for Fortune 50 to start-up companies, serving their needs locally in the Silicon Valley and globally. In his tenure at JLL, Joe has established himself as one of the firm’s fastest-rising brokers, earning promotions every year while completing over 100 transactions totaling more than 5 million square feet, and over $1B in lease consideration. Joe’s expertise encompasses business development, market research, and transaction execution. He leads comprehensive market analysis initiatives and creates strategic materials including market overviews, lease comparisons, and client presentations that drive successful outcomes. Prior to JLL, Joe spent six years at Salesforce as an enterprise software sales executive serving Silicon Valley companies, where he consistently ranked as a top producer. This technology sector experience provides him with unique insight into the operational needs and growth patterns of his clients. Joe graduated cum laude from University of San Diego with bachelor’s degrees in Finance and Marketing.

Jake Smart, Executive Vice President  – Colliers
Jake Smart is an Executive Vice President in Colliers’ Silicon Valley office. Jake is a partner of Colliers’ Silicon Valley Agency Services, which provides real estate advisory to a wide range of institutional owners, developers, and technology companies in the Greater Silicon Valley. In Jake’s 9+ years at Colliers, he has completed over 600 transactions totaling more than 6M square feet. Jake received his B.S. in Finance and Entrepreneurship from Saint Mary’s College of California in 2014. After doing some travel, he moved to San Francisco where he spent the next few years in an enterprise sales role at a technology startup. Jake joined Colliers in 2017.

Jan Sweetnam, Executive Vice President, Chief Investment Officer – Federal Realty (moderator)

Jan leads Federal’s growth initiatives, including vertical development opportunities at their existing assets, acquisitions, dispositions, and investment performance. Jan, a seasoned executive with more than three decades in the industry, has held several senior positions since joining Federal in 1997 and was instrumental in growing our West Coast portfolio. In 2021, he was appointed executive vice president, Western Region president. Prior to this, he was vice president, director of acquisitions with CB Richard Ellis Investors, where he was responsible for the acquisition of investment properties. Jan joined CB Richard Ellis Investors in 1990 where he also served as portfolio manager for community shopping centers, leasing director for urban office buildings and leasing director for industrial properties. From 1986 through 1988 he was employed by Julien J. Studley as a real estate investment sales broker in Los Angeles. Jan received a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Los Angeles. He is an active member of the Northern and Southern California real estate committees.
